Of Swords and the Samurai::
posted by Andoi @ 1:15 AM

So.. It's been a week since I last posted an update. I won't even try to tell everyone of what transpired these past few days. Ha. :) Basta dalawa na lang ang mga exam ko. Chem at Math midterms pa. Haaay... Please. Help me. It will be another difficult and trying week...

Anyhow, I watched TV the whole day yesterday. Watched two films, Warriors of Heaven and Earth and The Last Samurai. They're both period films... And there were lots of swordfights and bloody deaths. The first one was about this Japanese general, Sir Lai Xi who was assigned in the Tang court. Unless he put all the fugitives to justice, he couldn't go home to Japan. The last one on his list is Butcher Li. Sir Lai Xi was already on his trail and they fought but the general wasn't able to kill his enemy in three attacks. They then decided to meet at the capital instead because Butcher Li was going to bring certain Buddhist relics there. To cut the long story short, they became allies in protecting the relics because bandits and Turks were trying to steal them. In the end, they were able to bring the caravan to the capital and afterwards, the Golden Age of the Tang and China began. Haha. The film was ok. Not very spectacular but it was nice. Pwede na. :) The Last Samurai, on the other hand, was absolutely exquisite. I was so intrigued by the way of the Samurai. Haaay... We need people like that.. People who value honor, discipline, and compassion. I was so um.. attached to the story that I cried when the Last Samurai, Katsumoto died... Lessons learned: War will never be a rational solution to whatever conflicts we encounter. How could one kill his brother, his kababayan?... And despite all our attempts at improving and modernizing our countries, we must never forget those who have sacrificed their lives for our freedom... We must never forget our ways. We must never forget were we come from.
For 900 years, my ancestors have protected our people... and I failed them. (Something about dying in shame...)
Shame? Shame for a life of service? Discipline? Compassion?
.... The way of the Samurai is no longer necessary.
Necessary? Nothing could be more necessary..

So... I have to sleep now. Um... I heard that Christian and Rachelle Ann are dating. (There's no courting going on... YET.) Grrr... Whatever. Crap. Drat. Erk. They look like they're siblings. Haay.. When will people see?.... *I am extremely bitter.*
